WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE
‘We gotta get out of this place’ (The Animals - August ‘65)
‘Bolly trucks’ or ‘bogies’ were hand crafted machines, constructed from scrap wood, metal
and prams found on the crofts and bomb sites of the inner cities in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
Every one was different, but who had the fastest?
That’s where a slope of any kind could be turned into a racetrack.
These were extremely fast machines with no brakes, you stopped them with your feet on the ground….
it was up to you to explain to your mum and dad why your expensive new shoes
(if they were new) were ruined within a matter of weeks.
The mid sixties were possibly the final days of these trucks and The Animals number 2 hit in the August of ’65
summed up how many people felt living next door to rodent infested tips.
‘In this dirty old part of the city, where the sun refused to shine,
people tell me, there ain’t no use in tryin!’
